I believe that long
before I was born, God intended for music to be a part of my life.
My father, one of the founders of Young Chang Piano, was also an
accomplished pianist. His love of music became my own as I grew
up.
I began
playing the piano at the age of five. From my youth, it was my goal
to become a great concert pianist. I believed that success in that
realm would bring me ultimate satisfaction. I traveled the globe,
in pursuit of that success, studying at the most prestigious institutions,
earning the highest degrees and performing at different venues.
Each success gave me some temporary satisfaction, but ultimately
only served to increase my desires and ambitions. There seemed no
way to fill the deep emptiness growing within me.
In my
late twenties, I gave my heart to Jesus Christ, believing He had
a plan for my life, not realizing then, that He had a plan for my
music as well.
In 1993,
my life changed dramatically. During a missionary trip to Russia,
I was invited to perform at "Grace Festival" in Saint
Petersburg. It was a time of social and political reform, during
which the collapse of a 70 some year-long communist regime had left
thousands of Russians searching for meaning and purpose in their
lives.
During
my performance at this festival, where more than 10,000 Russians
had gathered, I could sense God pouring out His Spirit. Just as
the music of David's harp had lifted the evil spirit from Saul,
I saw the Holy Spirit moving and working powerfully in the thousands
gathered there. Our language barrier melted away and we were united
through the power of praise. As a result, many of them came to
know Jesus Christ.
At that
moment I realized why God had trained me in the piano. He wanted
me to use my training, not for secular entertainment, but for His
glory! And to be His witness through my music! God had given
me a vision and new direction for my career.
Since
receiving God's calling, I have been on a personal journey with
Him. He continually inspires and encourages me whether in times
of happiness or difficulties. Many have told me that they met the
Lord through the music. I've heard of spiritual and physical healings
that
God has worked through my CD ministry. It is very humbling to hear
of the encouragement and strength the CDs have provided for so
many, including those in the mission field.
My hope
is that my music will be a blessing as we continue heavenward, and
that God will use it to encourage the lost to join us along the
way.
The
Lord says: "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And
our response MUST BE a resounding "Here I am, Lord, Send Me,
and Use Me!" I wholeheartedly agree with the Prophet Isaiah,
and dedicate my praise to my Heavenly Father.
My
Love, My Lord and My Savour! I PRAISE THEE!
